Pam & Ben Engagement Session

September 29, 2008

Normally after a 4 hour photo session Glenna and I are completely wiped out. But Ben and Pam are a contagiously energetic couple, and our time with them just flew by!  Ben is the type of guy that will find everything funny.  Pam is willing to try anything and will do a 10k marathon on a whim.  Both were fantastically fun to work with – and it helped that they were willing to do anything for the camera, ‘cept take off their clothes (although Ben was close).  Here’s a sneak peek!

One of the silliest shots of the day!  We were at Princes Island Park for most of the mid morning noon and then took some more around Inglewood.  We’ll hopefully have pictures posted by mid week – in the meantime enjoy the “Runaway Ben” shot!

I have to get use to not calling him “Baby” anymore as Clara’s godson is starting to take wobbly steps into toddlerhood.  I hadn’t been able to get my good friends to sit for a “proper” family session for a while but last week after Baby’s first birthday we figured we really should document the entire family together.

He was sitting as docile as a little sheepy before he spotted me.

The little bugger was all squirmy and a little vocal about not wanting to get his diaper changed 2 seconds prior to this shot.  His personality took on a sudden change once mommy picked him up.  All smiles now.  And still looking quite baby!

Here daddy and baby are watching Elmo and Andre Boucelli sing “Time to Say Goodnight” on Sesame Street You Tube.  This one is going to be totally cultured.  Can you see him hold Elmo as he’s watching?

See how tiny he really is?  He’s so cute!  And he’s taken quite the liking to the two-legged mode of transportation.  With assistance, of course!

So we finally got a family shot!  In action!  Pretty adorable stuff don’t you think?  Baby was intrigued by ever crack and pebble on the sidewalk, it was so funny!  Happy Birthday, Chauncho!  You’re a fine child, really one of the best looking babies out there.  If you check out the ‘rents you’ll see why!  That’s my most unbiased opinion.  =)

New 50mm 1.4 Sigma Lens

September 20, 2008

I knew Rockstar always played guitar, but when Cindy and I started lessons with him, i found that not only is he good, he’s good because he’s passionate about music.  Whilst taking lessons however I couldn’t lose myself and get into the music quite like he did.  Why so stiff?  Where’s the emotion? – I dunno…i’m just strumming!  I didn’t understand the passion and i didn’t try to understand either.

When we started dating and he took off his teacher hat, the boyfriend hat would still drone on about guitar tone, Foo Fighters, wanting to get another guitar and I would whine that he already has a guitar and asked who the heck is Dave Grohl.

What i realized about him when i started to get into my interests was not only does he humor me when I start droning on about lenses, he would try to understand the technical, help me with the infrastructure, and never once whined about my incessant camera monologues but encouraged me to get into my passion.  (And I realised how awful i was!  ACK!!!)

Yesterday the first thing i did after purchasing a new buttery Sigma 50mm 1.4 prime lens was to text Rockstar and declare, I BOUGHT A LENS! and really he’s probably as excited about it as going to a Backstreet Boys concert, but he writes back with i know you’ll love it.   And he’s right – i really dig the lens.  And Rockstar?  He rocks…  =) And now i’m going to research this Dave guy….

Sharp, buttery, and contrasty.  I was in a rush to leave tonight so i shot the first thing i saw: grass.  I love it!  My 50mm 1.8 is now up for grabs.  Spyhoc and Mr.Inouvi i think you should take it off my hands!  It’ll serve you well!

Pan Family Portrait Session

September 15, 2008

The girls had finished their supper and put on their outfits ready to tackle the playground for a shoot when the sun was at its most sunset golden!  I was excited because we’ve never shot in this kind of light before but i’ve always wanted to!

The girls were loaded up in a cute wagon to make their daily apres dinner trek to the park.

It’s such a cool family ritual for them to take walks everyday.  It’s actually quite the hike to make it to the playground!

Baby was pretty mellow from the time Clara and I met them that evening until mom and dad put her on the swings.  She was ecstatic!

Check out her face!  She was so giddy, it was so precious!

Making her way bravely down the slide on her own…

Giving her best pose before barreling down the slide.

Father, daughter, and sun!

Keeping daddy on his toes while Nev goes and attempts another round at the slides.

Looks like a Full House Family pic now doesn’t it?

Mommy and the girls!  They’ve been holding out pretty good, but it’s starting to get late and it’s not easy being models.  Bed time soon!

Here she is helping out packing up the blanket.

And off we go back home, she walked a fair bit before having to have mom pick her up.

Baby has been pretty chill throughout the evening soaking up the sunset rays.

Crossing the field Nev spots a dog and keeps eyeing it even as we’re telling her to look our way to smile. =)

Finally we make it back home, but before bed we try another change of clothes to get them into little traditional Chinese “kay-po’s”.  They’re from H&M!

And really they’re spent but humored us with one last kissy shot.  They’re so cute!  The Pan fam is all around cool and cute.  The girls adore mom and dad – inspires me one day to hope to be just as cool and loving as they are.  So are we on for a morning session to get the girls at their perkiest?  =)

Sunset Baby Photo Session

September 12, 2008

It didn’t feel like Calgary had much of a summer, did it?  Now the days are getting colder, and the sun is setting a lot sooner!  It was only 7ish, and our shoot became a sunset session with a couple of cute babies and their styl’in hipster parents.  I was thrilled to get some sundrops in their hair and golden flecks in their shots.  Clara and I were definitely infringing on their bedtime (Nev’s facial expression became increasingly pouty – it was so cute!) but they graciously let us shoot on.

I was coveting her hair.  (Yes, a two-year old’s hair!)  She’s got these gorgeous curls…i tried perming my hair once to get that loose wavy look and ended up looking like a Bahama Mama!   More pics to come – her little sister was super adorable on the swings!

Converted. Kind of.

September 4, 2008

I know i have an IT background – but by golly if i didn’t i’d seriously have to check myself in for being a techno-phobe. Seriously. I took the plunge on the weekend and bought myself a MAC. Amidst avid users including my baby sister, Anti-Veg (an awesome photog, by the way!), Miss PR and Rockstar, i’m still SO intimidated by it. Splat key? Wha….? My PC has been a nightmare and it chugs along like molasses, yet even as i blog i’m still using it as my lonely MAC sits in its cardboard box.

I figure i’ll take it out for the next set of pictures. And when i get a mouse. And after i read MAC for dummies. But doesn’t it look purty? =)
